Student Mountaineering Clubs

Mountaineering Ireland values how involvement in a Student Mountaineering Club can lead to lifelong participation in activities such as hiking or climbing. Participation provides multiple benefits to participants, including enhanced mental and physical health, active citizenship and personal development.

To promote best practices within Student Mountaineering Club's (SMC's), Mountaineering Ireland has worked alongside SMC's, Student Sport Ireland and Technical Experts, to establish a Competence Progression Pathway which is included in Student Sport Ireland's Adventure Sports Guidance document.

In addition to MI's Competence Progression Pathway, MI has developed a Student Mountaineering Clubs Framework which is a general guidance working document for SMC's to develop their Standard Operating Procedures specific to their clubs needs.
