Fundamentals

FUNdamentals 1 not only looks at the fundamental sport specific skills of climbing but also focuses on how to develop the wider skills of agility, balance and co-ordination.

The learning outcomes for the Fundamentals 1 day are that you will be able to:

Describe the essential principles of the LTPD model
Demonstrate and explain basic coaching pedagogy
Structure an appropriate warm up
Explain, demonstrate and evaluate key climbing movement principles
Identify and apply appropriate activities to develop the FUNdamentals of climbing movement

Fundamentals of Climbing 2

The FUNdamentals of Climbing 2 builds upon the first workshop, looking at how specific techniques can be coached and is part of the requirements for the Level 1 Climbing Coach Award.

Prior attendance of a FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 is required for this workshop.

FUNdamentals 2 looks in greater detail at the sport specific requirements of climbing movement. Without a good grounding in technique a climber can never reach their potential.

The learning outcomes for the Fundamentals of Climbing 2 are that you will be able to:

Explain, demonstrate and evaluate key climbing movement principles
Identify and apply appropriate activities to develop the FUNdamentals of climbing movement

Fundamentals of Climbing 3

Participants need to be able to onsight 6b and boulder up to V3 comfortably to get the most out of the FUNdamentals of Climbing 3 workshop.

Prior attendance of the FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 & 2 is required for this workshop.

The third FUNdamentals workshop is designed to educate coaches working with climbers demonstrating an an advanced level of climbing technique. A coach working at this level should have a deep personal understanding of complex techniques and have high level observational skills to analyse a climber’s movement.

This course will look at what happens to body positioning and movement when hand and footholds become worse, the angle steepens and dynamic movement is employed

The learning outcomes for the Fundamentals of Climbing 3 are that you will be able to:

Identify and explain key biomechanical theory governing technical elements of climbing
Design and evaluate activities to explain the theory and practice of dynamic movement
Explain, demonstrate and evaluate the fundamental movement skills and principles of climbing specific to the terrain
Select, use and evaluate technology enhanced learning applications to support coaching
