UPDATE 18th August 2025
Mountaineering Ireland is continuing to engage with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to find a resolution to the Council's ban on climbing in Dalkey Quarry. We will provide a further update as soon as possible.
11th August 2025
Mountaineering Ireland is engaging with the Council and we have highlighted the long history of climbing in Dalkey Quarry and its importance for our sport. We have provided information on recent changes to the Occupiers' Liability Act which give further protection to landowners and embed in legislation the long-established principle that participants in outdoor recreation activities take responsibility for their own safety (see link below).
Mountaineering Ireland will be meeting with Council officials in the Quarry towards the end of August to discuss this issue.
In the meantime, it is up to climbers whether or not they climb in Dalkey Quarry.
