This course designed to give modern hikers the confidence to navigate Ireland’s mountains using the technology in their pocket.
This one-day course is perfect for hikers who want to learn how to use digital navigation to enhance their outdoor experience while staying safe and self-reliant.
Led by approved qualified training instructors, the course combines a focused indoor session with a practical day on the hills.
During the course, you will learn how to:
• Use the Hiiker App to locate your position and understand grid references
• Understand the difference between free and subscription-based apps
• Navigate using the HiiKER app, including offline mapping
• Identify key map features to better understand your surroundings
• Plan and follow your own routes with confidence
• Prepare for a safe day on the hills and respond to emergencies
There will be five courses in total that will be held in the following counties:
Wicklow
Tipperary
Down
Mayo
Kerry
The registration fee for each is €35. This programme is for adults only, and both members and non-members of Mountaineering Ireland are welcome.
