Mountaineering Ireland Volunteer of the Year Award

We are proud to announce that the inaugural Mountaineering Ireland Volunteer of the Year Award will be a featured category at the 2026 Outsider Awards.

This award celebrates the individuals whose time, energy, and passion make a meaningful difference for hiking, climbing, Ireland’s mountains and Mountaineering Ireland.

Who Is Eligible? This award recognises any individual who volunteers their time in support of Mountaineering Ireland, the activities we represent and Ireland’s mountains, including but not limited to:

  • Volunteering within a Mountaineering Ireland affiliated club;
  • Mountaineering Ireland Board, Committee or working group members;
  • Volunteering in support of Mountaineering Ireland events or initiatives;
  • Mountain Rescue volunteers;
  • Mentors, youth leaders, peer supporters who give their time to upskill others in hiking, climbing or mountaineering;
  • Volunteers who support conservation efforts in Ireland’s mountains and crags

Award Criteria The nominee should reflect the values of Mountaineering Ireland in some way. These are:

Sustainability & Environment

  • Acting responsibly to help protect access to the places where we do our activities
  • Taking action in response to climate change
  • Respecting, appreciating, and caring for the environment

Adventure

  • Finding fun and personal challenge in the hills, mountains, crags, and climbing walls
  • Acknowledging inherent risks and taking responsibility for their actions
  • Actively promoting learning and skills development in our activities

Community

  • Welcoming and inclusive 
  • Engage and collaborate, in a spirit of openness, for the benefit and development of our sport

We encourage all members to take part and nominate someone whose dedication deserves recognition.
