Happy Hiking - Hill Skills Days - Summer & Autumn 2025

Mountaineering Ireland is delighted to announce that its Happy Hiking - Hill Skills Days Series is back! This is a nationwide programme designed specifically for adults that are new to the hills and will be running from May to September.

Want to get into hiking but not sure where to start? Or are you a novice hiker hoping to build confidence on the hills? Mountaineering Ireland has just the thing for you!

Mountaineering Ireland’s Happy Hiking Hills Skills Programme returns in Summer 2025 for its fourth year. These Hill Skills Days are a great opportunity for anyone new to the hills or those who want to learn the basics of navigation. You will join a qualified and experienced instructor for a full day's training and gain useful information and skills that will help you to stay safe on the hills.

This programme is subsidised by Mountaineering Ireland. The registration fee for each Hill Skills Day is €20. This programme is designed for adults only, and both Mountaineering Ireland members and non-members are welcome.

Throughout the day you will learn about:
  • Movement skills
  • Basic navigation & map reading
  • Route planning
  • Safety considerations
  • Equipment and how to choose what's right for you.
 
These Hill Skills days are being held nationwide, and will be running from May to September.

Please note: this programme is not suitable for those who have already participated in a Mountain Skills course, it is targeted at novices and should not be used as a Mountain Skills refresher.
