The club is synonymous with trad climbing and has a particularly strong affinity with Fairhead. The club organises the annual Fairhead Climbing Meet - the major climbing event in Ireland. Membership of the club is open to all climbers who can provide a list of at least ten trad routes graded VS or higher that have been led in the past year. DCU Rock Climbing Club

Phone: (01) 700 5392
Email: dcurcc@gmail.com
Website: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~climbing/index.php
The DCU Rock Climbing Club was founded in October 1992 by Applied Physics and Electronic Engineering postgrads. From small beginnings, it didn't take long for the club to take off and the Climbing wall was opened for use early in 1993. The Club took immediate advantage of its new training facility, and in October 1993, DCU hosted the inaugural round of the Irish Bouldering League, an indoor climbing competition, which continues annually to this day in climbing walls around the country during the winter period. This went a long way to promoting the name of DCU climbers among the national climbing community, as we have always been strongly represented in these competitions. Since its foundation, way back in 1992, the club has been steadily building and maintaining a quality gear pool, ensuring that no matter what its members are attempting, they can attempt it safely. This, in conjunction with the clubs excellent policy on constant training and updating first-aid certificates, goes far in allowing all club members to climb in a safe and helpful environment. The club has and will always put its emphasis on outdoor climbing with trips to Wales, the Burren and Glendalough. regular outings to Dalkey Quarry in County Dublin also take place. Over the past ten years however the Club has seen its members travel to, and climb in places such as Scotland, Spain, Fontainebleau, Ceuse, all over the Alps, and even take part in expeditions to some of the greater ranges in Peru and Nepal.

The IMC is a non-profit organisation that has a history going back over seventy years with over 200 members who engage in all aspects of mountaineering and rock-climbing. The IMC organises climbing, hill-walking and social events all year round for its members as well as encouraging members to organise their own activities. We run training activities as needed for groups of members, including the very popular New Members Programme commencing in April each year. We own a climbers’ hut in the Wicklow Mountains, where members can stay overnight at a discounted rate and that can be used for various events. Prospective members are welcome to join in our regular Thursday night social events without obligation. For information about joining the IMC, please go to the club website.

Irish Ramblers Club

Email: info@theramblers.ie
Website: www.theramblers.ie
The Irish Ramblers’ Club was founded in 1964 by a small group of like-minded young people who enjoyed hiking and hillwalking. Over the course of its almost 60 years of existence, it has thrived and grown into a large club of more than 700 members. Every Sunday and Thursday we have six different day long hikes, each with its own allocated leader, which are divided into six grades. The fittest grade typically covers about 20km and climbs several mountains to accumulate a height gain of about 1000m while the gentlest walk would be about 9km in length and 250m in height gained. Members decide at what grade they will hike on any particular day depending on their level of fitness and stamina. As well as day-long hikes in counties Dublin and Wicklow, the club organises away days when we walk further afield in places such as the Mourne Mountains. Longer trips, both throughout Ireland and also in Europe, are organised from time to time, and these have proved to be highly popular among our members. A number of training days/weekends take place throughout the year. But it’s not all outdoor fun. The Ramblers are very sociable and often enjoy getting together for a meal after the day's hiking.
