The NorthWest Mountaineering Club was formed in 1955, at a similar time as the Irish Mountaineering Club, both with aspirational titles and this is how the NWMC continues to see itself – as a broad-based, cross-border group with members from counties Donegal, Derry and Tyrone. We also have a long-standing association with our near neighbour, Sligo Mountaineering Club. We walk mainly in Donegal, sometimes in Northern Ireland and occasionally in Sligo; we also travel further afield several times a year to other mountain areas in Ireland, the Lake District and various mountain destinations in Scotland. The Club welcomes new members of all ages. Join us as a regular walker; an occasional walker; or even as a non-local occasional walker!
