Starting at 9am on the seafront in Ballyvaughan, Co.Clare. Our unique event is set in one of nature’s most extraordinary landscapes with its vast rocky pavements and its incredible array of Artic, Alpine and Mediterranean flora.
It is a managed - supervised event with pre inspected routes taking participants into the heart of The Burren. It has local volunteers, club members and first aiders dotted along all routes throughout the event who are fantastic Burren ambassadors. We follow a strict Leave No Trace Policy throughout this event. The landowners are very supportive of this event as it welcomes many visitors into the Burren on this day and are all looked after by our local club The Ballyvaughan Fanore Walking Club.
We provide toilet facilities along the planned routes. Participants also get water and fruit along the routes at specially appointed water stops where any waste can be placed in refuse bins at these stops and disposed of correctly. We ask all to take along a reusable water bottle but we also provide bio degradable cups for those who prefer not to carry a bottle. ICRO (Irish Cave Rescue Org) and local doctors provide any first aid required on the day.
All routes are walked and inspected again immediately after the event as we all feel very passionate about our beautiful Burren area and always leave it as we found it.
We very much appreciate Mountaineering Irelands support and look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Burren if you can attend on May 24th. All details www.clareburrenmarathonchallenge.com or phone 087 2691147.
