In this webinar Ania Bakiewicz, Mountain Leader, Archaeologist and Mountaineering Ireland’s Women in Sports coordinator will take you through a tour of the Medieval and Post -Medieval features that you can encounter while strolling through the Irish hills.

In part 1 of the series, Ania explains what is an archaeological feature and what kind of artifacts are associated with it. She teaches how to spot a feature during the different seasons of the year. She highlights the role of the aerial archaeology and introduces useful software and different kinds of maps available for hillwalkers. She explains how the archaeology is marked on them. Finally, she gives examples of Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic features that you can still recognize on the ground while hillwalking. She gives the insight to their function, dating and associated folklore.
