Irish Peaks Photo Competition

Mountaineering Ireland is working on the second edition of Irish Peaks, our award-winning guide to Ireland’s highest mountains, based on the MountainViews  Highest Hundred list ( While the photographs in Irish Peaks have received much praise, we know there’s scope to increase the Wow factor!

If you have looked at Irish Peaks and said ‘I have a better photo than that’, this is your opportunity.

Check out the guidelines below and send us up to 10 images by midnight on Sunday 11th September and a free copy of the new Irish Peaks book could be delivered to you!

Other feedback and suggestions for changes to Irish Peaks are also welcome; for example if you encountered an access difficulty when using the book, or you thought that a route description could be improved. Please email your feedback to as soon as possible.

Guidelines for submitting photos:

  • Please ensure your photo is the same shape as the one currently in the book (this makes a change of photo more straightforward).
  • Suitable images include a photo of the mountain looking across or up at it, a feature of interest on the mountain (not a trig pillar!), or a view from the mountain. Dawn or sunset images are also welcome.
  • Photos that include people would be great, but the people should not be prominent or recognisable. Photos with club groups, young people and family groups are very welcome, provided the people are not recognisable.
  • Photos should be submitted as Jpeg files, ideally 3mb – 10mb.
  • If possible, the file name should include the mountain name.
  • Limit of 10 entries per person.
  • Email photos to or share via WeTransfer etc.
  • Competition deadline is midnight on Sunday 11th September 2020.

The team working on Irish Peaks will select 10 photographs that make a significant addition to the new edition. The competition winners will all receive a free copy of the new edition of Irish Peaks (due out in November 2022). The winners will be notified in October and the winning images will be published on Mountaineering Ireland’s social media channels.
