Irish Peaks photo competition

Mountaineering Ireland has launched an Irish Peaks photo competition, to gather additional images for certain mountains featured in Irish Peaks, a new guidebook with routes on Ireland’s highest mountains, due to be launched at Mountaineering Ireland's Spring Gathering 2020.

Irish Peaks will be a large hard-cover book with beautiful images and detailed route descriptions from mountain areas across the island, the majority of these submitted by Mountaineering Ireland members.

Check out the list of mountains below, look back over photos you have taken in the last few years, send us up to 10 images by midnight on Sunday 5th January and a free copy of the Irish Peaks book could be delivered to you!

The mountains we’re looking for:

  • Ben Gorm (south Mayo)
  • Birreencorragh (Nephins)

Guidelines for submitting photos:

  • Suitable images include a photo of the mountain looking across or up at it, a feature of interest on the mountain (not a trig pillar!), or a view from the mountain. Dawn or sunset images are also welcome.
  • Photos that include people would be good, but the people should not be prominent or recognisable. Photos with young people or family groups are very welcome, provided that the people are not recognisable.
  • Photos should be submitted as Jpeg files, ideally 3mb – 10mb.
  • Limit of 10 entries per person.
  • Email photos to irishpeaks@mountaineering.ie or share via Dropbox, WeTransfer etc.
  • Competition deadline is midnight on Sunday 5th January 2020.

The design and editorial team working on Irish Peaks will select 10 competition winners whose photos are judged to make a significant addition to the Irish Peaks book, these people will all receive a free copy of the book. Any photos included in the Irish Peaks book will be credited to the photographer. The winners of this competition will be notified at the end of January or early in February and the winning images will be published on Mountaineering Ireland’s Facebook page.

Note: By submitting photos you accept that these images may be published by Mountaineering Ireland and you accept that the final decision rests with the judges.
