This form will be used as part of the selection process for the (TDS). This form should be completed in collaboration between the climber and the parent / guardian. Climbers and parents / guardians are encouraged to reflect on their motivation and commitment to be a part of the TDS.

The TDS serves to provide selected young climbers with a high-performance training environment in which to develop their climbing ability. The TDS is a key part of the Mountaineering Ireland Talent Development Pathway and an important stage in the process to become a member of the Mountaineering Ireland Youth Climbing Team.

Membership of the TDS gives young climbers access to monthly TDS Training Sessions. TDS Training Sessions bring the members of the TDS together to train under the guidance of the TDS Coaches. Each TDS Coach will work with designated climbers at a 1:6 ratio.

TDS Training Sessions take place on a monthly basis from September through to April. The season is broken into two blocks; Block 1 (Sep - Dec) focuses on development of young climbers physical, technical and lifestyle attributes, Block 2 (Jan - Apr) focuses on tactical and psychological attributes as well as preparation for specific climbing competitions.

The dates for the 2016/2017 schedule of Talent Development Squad Training Sessions are:

Block 1

TDS Coaches will provide written feedback and recommendations for the climbers after each TDS Training Session. Climbers are expected to read the feedback and follow the coaches recommendations.

All members of the TDS are expected to attend all of the TDS Training Sessions. The cost of attending the TDS Training Sessions is €100 (or £Stg equivalent) per block of four sessions, to be paid in advance.

Membership of the TDS also affords young climbers the opportunity to be considered to attend TDS Training Camps. The TDS Training Camps take place on a bi-annual basis; at Halloween and Easter. These week long training camps are usually held in Fontainebleau, France. The training camps provide selected young climbers the opportunity to refine their climbing skills under the watchful eye of the TDS Coaches. A selection of TDS members will be invited to attend the Talent Development Camps. The cost of attending the TDS Training Camp is €500 (or £Stg equivalent), to be paid in advance.
