The IFSC World Youth Climbing Championships are currently taking place in Arco, Italy. The championships consist of lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering. This year has been the first year that bouldering has featured as part of the championships. 

Mountaineering Ireland is being represented in bouldering at the championships by Dominic Burns, Andrew Mawhinney, Daragh O Connor and Sean Hoare. The team is being supported by Team Coach Terry O Connor and Rob Hunter. 

Sean Hoare from Midleton in Cork competed in the Male Youth A category. Sean has has a strong run of results at Irish and UK competitions over the past number of years. This season Sean made the transition to international competitions. Sean placed 24th in his category, missing out on a place in the semi-final by just four places. 

In the Junior Male category Andrew Mawhinney put in a good performance to secure a 48th place finish. Daragh O Connor did not compete due to a leg injury sustained earlier in the summer. The teams highest results came from Dominic Burns who qualified into the semi-finals in 17th place and moved up a place to 16th overall in the semi-final.

The World Youth Climbing Championship in Arco marks the end of a busy summer season for the team and Team Coach Terry O Connor. Mountaineering Ireland would like to congratulate and thank the team for all the strong performances and all the effort put in to training building up to the international competitive season.
