Do your bit for nature

Ireland’s wildlife and our most valued natural places, including most of our mountain areas, benefit from legal protection through European directives which are incorporated into Irish law.

The European Commission is currently reviewing these directives (the Birds and Habitats directives). Environmental organisations across Europe fear that this could result in weakened legislation. Many here believe this to be the most serious threat to Irish nature conservation in a generation.

The European Commission is asking all European citizens for their opinion and Mountaineering Ireland is encouraging you to make your voice heard. To make it easy for people to participate, European environmental organisations have created a website with a draft response to the consultation.

To do your bit to save nature, all you need to do is click on the link below, fill in your basic details (name, email address, and country), click on the "Take action now" button, review the suggested responses and then "Submit answers".

If you would like to word your own response you can complete the questionnaire on the European Commission's website.

One way or the other, please use your voice to say that Europe’s nature protection laws should be maintained and enforced, not weakened.
