A warm welcome and introduction to our new Hillwalking Committee members:

Jim McHale, Peter Wright, Brian Kennan and Clare Brennan

Jim McHale

"I started hillwalking when I joined Clare Outdoor Club in 2005 and haven’t looked back since.

"I enjoy the club scene, getting out and about with friends and generally appreciating the great outdoors. I have walked extensively in all parts of Ireland, including all the “County Tops” and “600m Peaks”, as well as further afield with trips to Alps, Andes and Himalaya.

"As a Mountain Leader and Mountain Skills provider, I deliver both formal and informal training to local clubs. I have served on the club committee in various roles over the years including a couple of years as Chair. During the week, I work as an Electronic Engineer.

"While I am settled in Ennis most people recognise the tell-tale Mayo name that points to my home county."

Peter Wright

"I am a keen hillwalker from the North West of Ireland, walking primarily in the Bluestack and Dartry Mountains.

"I am Secretary to the Bluestack Ramblers Walking Group based in South Donegal who walk throughout the North West and further afield on a regular basis.

"Although long established we have only recently affiliated with Mountaineering Ireland, it is great to have joined such a vibrant organisation! I have recently retired from a career in the health service and so now have more time for outdoor pursuits.

"When not hillwalking, I spend time as a volunteer with the Civil Defence."

Brian Kennan

"I am a family man with four children in their twenties, I love the outdoors and enjoy walking, running, cycling and motorcycling.

"I am a very active member of the Irish Ramblers Club and am the coordinator for the Thursday Grade 2 hikes.

"I have recently retired from a career in the technology sector, and happily swapped my briefcase for a backpack. I have considerable experience leading teams, transforming organisations, and implementing large scale plans.

"I am excited to roll up my sleeves to put my organisational and leadership skills to work in support of Mountaineering Ireland’s hillwalking ambitions."

Claire Brennan

"I enjoy the outdoors particularly hiking and cycling. Always happy to combine hiking with travelling to new destinations!

"On a professional level, I work in the pharmaceutical industry and have held roles in Operations and Program Management.

"I am passionate about making hillwalking accessible to everyone and have been an active member of Club Cualann for over 10 years.
