Coillte's future plans

On foot of the success of 2012-2013 campaign to prevent the sale of Coillte’s harvesting rights, Mountaineering Ireland has recently made a strong submission about how the Coillte estate should be managed in the future.

The main themes within Mountaineering Ireland’s submission were the need for greater emphasis on the recreation value of Coillte property, better engagement with those who use our forests and more robust measurement of Coillte’s achievement of their objectives.  The Coillte estate is publicly owned land and accounts for almost 7% of the land area in the Republic of Ireland.

The submission was made in response to consultation on Coillte’s draft Strategic Plans for 2016-2020.  Mountaineering Ireland extends thanks to the many members who contributed views and suggestions;  this helped to build a comprehensive submission.

Coillte’s Forestry Stewardship Certification is up for re-assessment at the start of 2016. If you have comments about forest management carried out by Coillte, please send information to by Tuesday 5th January 2016.
