99 DIGITAL LOGBOOKS All Mountaineering Ireland members have a Digital Logbook to record their adventures and entries as a diary record or towards scheme and award requirements. To access your Digital Logbook, go into your membership record on www.mountaineering.ie and select the ‘Digital Log’ option. Training candidates across the UK and Ireland also have a Mountain Training Digital Logbook. Both logbooks can be shared with employers, trainers and assessors. If you are a new training candidate it is recommended that you use the Mountain Training Digital Logbook. Existing training candidates can start to use the Mountain Training Digital Logbook at any time, safe in the knowledge that both logbooks can be shared. For support, please contact the training office or speak to your training provider during your course. KEY TIPS FOR THE SUMMER SEASON Protect yourself in the outdoors Summer brings its own unique challenges when visiting the mountains and crags. Following two skin biopsies last year, I would strongly urge all outdoor entusiasts to get checked, especially if the outdoors are your workplace and where you earn your living. So slip on a T-shirt, slap on a hat and slop on the suncream. Even in our relatively temperate conditions we are exposed to intense sunshine which, over the years, can cause sun damage or worse. “The last word always belongs to the mountain.” – Anatoli Boukreev (1958-1997) GET FAMILIAR WITH FEATURES If you enjoyed the learning recomendations in the last Mountain Log, use the (hopefully!) better weather over summer to practice relating your map to the features you see around you on the hills.
