Mountain Log Summer 2025

92 It is possible that Mountain Everlasting is growing elsewhere in the Wicklow Mountains. The leaves are visible all year round, and they’re distinctive. The underside is white and silky due to lots of fine hairs that reduce water loss from the plant, helping it to survive in harsh environments. If you spot Mountain Everlasting, please take a photo and coordinates for the location and email [email protected]. Reports received will be passed on to the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI). The BSBI has just launched a project to record certain upland plants in Ireland. If you’d like to get involved go to: https://bsbi.org/ireland/irishupland-plants-project. COMERAGH WINDFARM TURNED DOWN In April of this year, An Bord Pleanála refused a Strategic Infrastructure Development application for a windfarm at Coumnagappul in the western part of the Comeragh Mountains, Co Waterford. The application was for 10 turbines, with an overall height of 185 metres, which would have made them the tallest wind turbines in Ireland.
