Photo: Helen Lawless A DISCOVERY ON KIPPURE Two Mountaineering Ireland members recently found a plant growing on Kippure that had never before been recorded on that mountain. The summit of Kippure is on the Dublin and Wicklow border and the plant was on the Wicklow side. Annemarie Keoghan and Brenda O’Neill were on an environmental walk I was leading for members of the Irish Ramblers Club and the Dublin Hillwalkers Club. The plant was Mountain Everlasting, or Cat’s Paw, abundant in parts of the west, including the Burren, but rare elsewhere. The find was made while the group was searching for another plant, Alpine Clubmoss. Not only is this the first time Mountain Everlasting has been recorded on Kippure, but it has not been recorded anywhere in Wicklow since the late 1960s and has not been recorded in Dublin since the 1990s.
