INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION SEASON To date, in 2025, two of our U21 athletes, Amy Rafferty and Tom Nickels, have joined senior team members Michael O’Neill, Seán O’Connor, Ciarán Scanlon, Mark Scanlon and Tommy Myles with selection to senior European cups; this has given them great experience as they make the transition to senior level. Amy’s 31st finishing position at the European Cup in Rome is particularly noteworthy. At the European Youth Cups, two of our athletes, Faye Shields and Romany Bell, were selected for the boulder competitions before going on to perform at the European Youth Championships (Boulder) in Curno, Italy, joined by Tom Nickels and Amy Rafferty in the U21 category. Faye Shields’ performance at Sukoró, Hungary, in the final European Youth Cup of the season, saw her finish in a particularly impressive 14th place. The lead season has just started and we saw India Adam make her international debut in the Senior category. After winning gold at the Irish Boulder Championships and Silver at the Irish Lead Championships, she pulled on the Irish singlet for the first time at the European Cup for Lead in Campitello di Fassa, Italy on June 21st. Next stop is the European Cup in Ostermundigen, Switzerland, where she will be joined by Amy Rafferty and Tom Nickels. Meanwhile, Michael O’Neill is continuing with a late boulder season in the World Cups. He has recently competed in Bern and Innsbruck, where he was joined by teammate Ciarán Scanlon. In Innsbruck, Michael put in an amazing performance to achieve his best result ever at World Cup level, with 33rd place (out of 109 competitors) and outperforming his ranking.
