Fair Head Climbing Meet 4th - 6th June

4 June 2010

Fair Head Climbing Meet 4th - 6th June
Hi Folks, Just a quick update with what is happening over the weekend. First of all the camping is all sorted on Sean's Farm. The price will be £5 per night. For people that are coming up a few days early, or staying a few days longer there will be no problem. If would be helpful if people can just be honest and pay, so that I don't have to go around collecting! Will people be up for a BBQ on the Friday night? I am getting a few BBQ's together and could do some burger, sausages and baked potatoes for people travelling up. I think a BBQ will work better on the Friday night because most people will be climbing late into the evening on the Saturday. If folk are interested in this could they post a reply, so I can get an idea of numbers. I wouldn't imagine it costing more that a £5! As for the entertainment for the weekend. This was a bit of a tricky one. With the sun not setting until nearly 11pm at the head for this time of year I have decided not to have a climber do a slide show, but to show Asgard Jamming on big screen, potentially followed by some music. Sean V is hopefully coming along for the weekend and said he is happy to introduce the DVD and answer a few questions. For more information on the weekend go to www.mountaineering.ie/documentbank/uploads/Fair%20Head.pdf There will also be a small youth element to the Meet. Mountaineering Ireland are offering FREE instruction on Sunday 6th June for 4 active young climbers (14 - 23 years old). The 4 climbers will get the chance to be guided and instructed by 2 qualified instructors and enjoy the fantastic climbing at Fair Head. This is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy and see what Fair Head is all about under the close instruction of a top instructor. The 4 successful applicants will need to make their own way to Fair Head to meet the instructors at 9.30am at Sean’s camp site (directions will be included upon successful application). Applicant Criteria: We are also looking for 4 applicants who are aged 14 – 23, who have significant experience of rock climbing in Ireland and who are committed to developing their talent into other disciplines of the sport. We expect the candidates to be competent rock climbers with some lead climbing experience, and seconding at a grade of VS or above. A high level of fitness will be essential. The application can be downloaded from www.mountaineering.ie/youth/viewdetails.asp?ID=30 Completed application form must be returned to the Youth Development Officer no later than Wednesday 26th May. I have also heard a whisper that some boulders are going to be there. Of course your more that welcome!!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone there and don't forget your sunnies! Paul Swail MI Youth Development Officer paul.swail@mountaineering.ie
