Mountain Meitheal Work Day

Date 11 September 2010
Venue Three Rock Mountain

The next Mountain Meitheal (MM) work day will be Saturday 11th September 2010 on our project repairing a well worn track on Three Rock Mountain. The work is progressing well but slowly, MM have 223m of stone pitching  and 139m of re-surfacing completed with a further 26m of track to repair.  MM would really appreciate your help to complete the project.  The work will be similar to the work carried out at Curtlestown Wood. For more details see The Mountain Meitheal Guide to Trail Design and Construction pages 24 and 27.  The end result will provide a sustainable trail which will last for many decades to come, will also allow the regeneration of the surrounding vegetation and minimize the soil erosion.

Directions:

From city centre, head for Marley Park via Rathfarnham. Passing the main entrance to the Park on your right, turn right at Balinteer St Johns  GAA Club and following the road around the edge of the Park, turn left at Taylor’s Grange onto the R113. Take the second turn on the right and this will bring you to the entrance to Ticknock forest at grid ref O168242  (Discovery Series map no 50). Drive up to the upper car park. We will bring the cars up to site. As we will be locking the barrier behind us while we are on site, anybody wishing to bring their car to site should arrive early.

Please meet at 10.30am. Come prepared for a day in the hills, be prepared for all weathers, wear appropriate footwear. A pack lunch is advisable including a hot drink. A change of clothes is recommended for the homeward journey. Mountain Meitheal will provide the tools and gloves. Why not bring a friend – new comers are always welcome.

The dates of the remaining work days for this year are printed at the end of this notice.
