It is a 30/40km hike from Clonmel to Dungarvan over the massif of the Comeragh and Monavullagh Mountains and takes place on the first Saturday in July each year. The Walk Approximately 30km long with about 1150m ascent. Beautiful scenery on a good day, but has proved a difficult walk on an inclement day. The average time to cover the entire route is 10 hours. There are three stages to the walk and it is possible to join the walk at stage 2 and stage 3. Experience is required to cover all three stages. Entrants can join a group that will have a walk leader and sweeper. The Challenge Approximately 40km with about 1920m ascent.
Participants must have completed other long distance walks with 1500m ascent or more. This is a walk for the very experienced walker with a high level of fitness ("A "grade walker). The average walking time is 10 hours. Apart from the physical challenge, it is a test of navigation and route finding, especially in poor weather conditions.
Transport is provided from the registration point in Dungarvan to the walk start outside Clonmel (S 193 193). At the walk finish you can collect your certificate and souvenir t-shirt and enjoy a well-earned supper.
