Women with Altitude Bursary for MIA trainees

Funding from Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport programme allows WWA to provide a platform for women to experience mountaineering activities such as walking, navigation, scrambling and climbing. Our annual weekend offers many opportunities to gain experience and knowledge for those going through the lower level awards. We have some fantastic female instructors but are conscious that there needs to be a consistent number of women going through the higher awards such as the MIA in order to bolster female instructor numbers in the future. With this in mind, we are happy to announce a training bursary to support females going through MIA training.

Do I meet the criteria?

  • You must be a current female member of Mountaineering Ireland
  • You must have registered for the MIA award and will have completed training by the end of 2016

If so

  • Complete the below application form and email to Jane Carney (jane@mountaineering.ie) by November 30th at the latest

Process:

All applications will be reviewed at our next WWA meeting in early December. We will contact you after that meeting to let you know if you have been successful or not. Successful candidates will be asked for receipts from the Provider/Centre for training already completed (or scheduled for completion before the end of 2016). Funds will be paid directly into the candidate’s bank account.

Follow up:

We are always looking to keep the profile of our female mountaineers in the forefront of our membership so we may ask you to contribute to a piece for the Irish Mountain Log or to participate in some way on either the WWA weekend event in 2017 or on a one day event.

The training grant fund and application process will be managed by Mountaineering Ireland. The total fund amount is €1000.00 and this will be divided between no more than five successful candidates. Maximum per candidate is €250.00. MI reserves the right not to award the entire fund amount should they feel applications are not relevant or appropriate. MI also reserves the right to increase the maximum amount per successful candidate if necessary.
