Mountaineering Ireland 's Cork Climbing project got under way earlier this week with an induction programme for a group of Cork teachers from 15 schools around Cork City and suburbs.
The programme, which is aimed at primary school children and post primary girls, aims to introduce over 400 participants to a sport which they can take part in for life.
Over the next 3 months the youths will participate in 6 structured climbing sessions that will help them progress through the national indoor climbing achievement scheme (NICAS).

This Mountaineering Ireland project is funded through the Irish Sports Council's Women In Sport initiative and is being hugely supported by Cork Sports Partnership and Awesome Walls Cork.

Karl Boyle, CEO Mountaineering Ireland said, "This project will see more than 400 young participants introduced to climbing, a sport that they can enjoy for life. The project wouldn't be possible without the Irish Sports Council's Women in Sport initiative and the support of Cork Local Sport Partnership and Awesome Walls Cork."
