Climbing Coach Award Level 1 Pilot

The Climbing Coach Award Pilot took place 7th-8th August at Awesome Walls, Dublin. In attendance at the pilot were; Hayley Harrison of Coaching Ireland, Neal McQuaid as the main provider, a group of experienced coaches as participants, Mountaineering Ireland’s Talent Development Officer, Damien O’Sullivan and Mountaineering Ireland Training Officer, Jane Carney. A thorough review and critique has been carried out post-course, with the final version ready for release in September.

This is the first Coaching Award to be created by Mountaineering Ireland and has been designed to build upon and promote high standards within the coaching of climbing in Ireland. The award is aimed at existing coaches and holders of climbing awards.
To be eligible for this award you will need:

  • to have held the Climbing Wall Award or Single Pitch Award or higher for at least one year
  • to have completed the FUNdamentals 1 & 2 courses
  • to be lead climbing at French 6a 
  • to have experience of coaching climbing.

The first course will be running on 22-23rd September 2014.
