Damien O' Sullivan has joined Mountaineering Ireland as Talent Development Officer. 

Damien began climbing in 2001 as a midweek distraction whilst studying at University College Cork. His early climbing experience was gained mostly at the Gap of Dunloe, Co. Kerry and Ailladie, Co. Clare. Damien has climbed widely around Ireland, in particular spending a lot of time at Fair Head over the past number of years. 

From the outset he competed in the Irish Bouldering League and quickly became involved in the organisation of the Irish Bouldering League. Over the past few years he has made numerous climbing trips to venues including Yosemite, Indian Creek, Red River Gorge, the Black Canyon, Joshua Tree and Eldorado Canyon in the USA. Climbing in France and Spain has also featured heavily, with time spent in Ceuse, the Verdon Gorge, Chamonix, Buoux, Fontainebleu, Siurana, Margalef, Albarracin and El Chorro.

Damien played a large part in the foundation of the Cork Youth Climbing Club. In this role he helped to develop and implement the training structures for this very successful club. Over the past year Damien had worked as a climbing coach with the Cork Youth Climbing Club and the University College Cork Mountaineering club. He helped organize and coach at a number of the Mountaineering Ireland Talent Development Workshops that were run for the benefit of young climbers preparing for various competitions. Damien also organised the Cork, Dublin and the final rounds of the Youth Climbing Series. 

In his role as Talent Development Officer at Mountaineering Ireland Damien will be responsible for the implementation of a talent identification and development system for youth climbers. Damien will also be responsible for climbing competitions such as the Irish Lead Climbing Championships, the Irish Bouldering Championships and the Youth Climbing Series.

Damien's enthusiasm is infectious, “It’s a really exciting time for youth climbing in Ireland. There are so many talented and hard working young climbers in Ireland at the moment. There’s a real buzz about the youth climbing scene. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work at Mountaineering Ireland to help develop youth climbing in Ireland. I’m looking forward to working with all the people who have put a huge amount of work in developing the scene over the past number of years".
