Mountain Leader food for thought.......?

Mountain Leader food for thought.......?

Did you know?

BOS (the Irish Mountain Training Board) have over 1500 Mountain Leader (ML) candidates registered on their database.

There are over 400 qualified ML holders throughout Ireland.

Currently BOS approve 10 individuals to deliver ML training in the Republic of Ireland.

Tollymore Mountain Centre is the sole provider of the Mountain Leader Training Northern Irelands (MLTNI) ML scheme.

Both the BOS and MLTNI Mountain Leader qualifications are also recognised within England, Scotland and Wales, as the required standard for leading hillwalking groups in the uplands under summer (non snowy) conditions.

Mountaineering Irelands Training Office is currently looking for your feedback and comment on your experiences within the ML scheme. To download the ML questionnaire

Over the Easter weekend, while many of us aimed our attention towards chocolate and Guinness, twelve candidates took to the mountains of Kerry for 3 tough days of testing their leadership and personal mountaineering skills. The 12 ML assessment candidates were put through their paces across the lofty peeks of the Macgillycuddy’s under the watchful eye of Dave Gaughran, Ann O Connor and Samantha Shelley.

Although the below photos may give the impression of sunny, clear weather throughout, the reality of the harsh conditions encountered are hidden in the cloud and rain that persisted for much of the three days.

Well done to all the candidates who put themselves forward for this weekend. I hope you had an experience, learnt lots and will continue to progress…..what ever your results.

Regards,

Tim
